How can a Lift Chair from Amramp Help You?

You love to relax in a nice comfy chair while you read or watch television, but you struggle with getting up to a standing position from the sofa or your existing chair. You may benefit from a lift chair.

A lift chair has an internal mechanical lifting mechanism inside a comfy recliner chair that raises the chair and tilts it forward with the push of a button to make it easier for you to get into and out of the chair. The chair does all the lifting for you. You sit down or get up from a standing position, put your back against the chair and let the chair do the rest of the work. The lift chair makes standing much easier by taking pressure off your knees and lower body muscles to make sitting and standing safer and more comfortable.

What to look for when buying a lift chair

You want a comfortable chair that complements your room and meets your accessibility needs. Here are a few things to consider when deciding on a lift chair.

Size of the Chair

There are many different models, but most lift chairs are considerably larger than typical chairs. Keep that in mind when choosing the right chair for you. Where do you plan to place the chair in your home? Because the chair reclines, you need to take the reclining position dimensions into consideration as well.

Safety Features

The internal mechanical lifting mechanism is generally electric. How will you get out of the chair if the power goes out? Look for a model with built-in battery back up.

Sitting Positions

Not all lift chairs offer the same number of positions. There are a lot of choices here – anywhere from two positions to infinite positioning. Do you want to just sit or do you intend to fully recline in the chair?

Weight Capacity and Height Range

Most models accommodate up to 300 pounds. There are some heavy duty models available that are rated for 350 – 400 pounds. Make sure the chair you choose is appropriate for your height.

Upholstery Material

Lift chairs come in a variety of fabrics and colors to match your décor and lifestyle. Check for easy to clean and stain-resistant fabrics. Also consider more breathable fabrics. If you will be sitting for long periods of time, you want a fabric that won’t feel hot or sticky.

Your Amramp accessibility experts will review the available options and help you make the right decision for the best lift chair for your needs.
