MDA Muscle Walk: Get moving for a great cause. Join Amramp March 29

Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic disorder that causes muscles to weaken over time, and thousands of Americans are affected by it. The Muscular Dystrophy Association started the MDA Muscle Walk, a non-competitive “get moving” event held in cities across the country to honor and raise money for adults and children who have one of the different types of muscle diseases that fall under the Muscular Dystrophy classification, such as Duchenne (DMD), Becker, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Amramp is proud to be a sponsor this year of the MDA Muscle Walk – our corporate team is excited to get out there and show some spirit at the Massachusetts & Rhode Island walk on March 29th at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, and we hope local readers will join us!

The MDA Muscle Walk is the largest event of its kind in the U.S, bringing together friends and family members of all generations to participate in some fun, light exercise (most walks are no more than a mile). Money raised by the event will go toward medical research as well as services for families affected by neuromuscular disease.

According to the National Institute of Health, MD consists of “more than 30 genetic diseases characterized by progressive weakness and degeneration of the skeletal muscles that control movement. Some forms of MD are seen in infancy or childhood, while others may not appear until middle age or later.” Each case is different, and the effects and severity can vary from one individual to another. Treatment may include “physical therapy, respiratory therapy, speech therapy, orthopedic appliances used for support, and corrective orthopedic surgery,” as well as pharmaceutical medications. In many cases, people with MD are also wheelchair users.

MDA is the world’s largest voluntary health agency to support and fund research and provide healthcare services to families, as well as raising awareness about MD. Amramp’s mission as a company is to help those with mobility challenges – including neuromuscular diseases – by creating products to make their environments safer, more accessible, and easier to navigate. Amramp supports the MDA Muscle Walk because we see nearly every day the effects of the disease and are doing our part to find better therapies through research.

We hope you’ll join us in raising money for Muscular Dystrophy by participating in a walk held in your area, and for our New England readers, we’d love to see you in Foxboro on March 29th!
