Hi Rick - Need to put a ramp at our Church Hall. Our group makes food for receptions after funerals and a lot of elderly people use this Hall. We have several steps and it makes it very hard for them to get in and out. We have
some funding available but need to know if there is funding available anywhere to help us with this project. I have a call into your company for a free estimate and am waiting to hear back to set up a day and time. Thank you for
any help you could give us with funding sources.

Recently, Amramp was called in to solve two accessibility issues at the Cahill Apartment complex run by the Northampton (MA) Housing Authority. A multi-unit apartment building required two small ADA compliant ramps, each to make accessible a single step. The second issue involved building an ADA compliant ramp on the Community Building where there are 6 steps leading up to the entry door and a 90 degree turn was required.
The Amramp system is built from recycled steel modular pieces bolted together on site. Steel decking allows snow to pass through so that little maintenance will be required for snow removal next winter. Because the Amramp system is painted black, the surface of the deck will be warmer than the ambient air temperature thus helping to promote the melting of ice or snow. Two handrails are built into the system and in the case of the Community Building ramp, safety pickets were supplied in areas 30" above the ground. Both ramps were installed in approximately 5 hours on the same day. The Amramp system is designed to solve both small and large accessibility issues.

The 4th Annual Community Caregiver Workshop was held today at the Nishi Hongwanji Temple in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles, CA.

American Ramp Systems exhibited the American Ramp Systems and spoke with many of the 200 attendees about the mobility needs and solutions.

Bill Watanabe, Executive Director of the Little Tokyo Service Center recounted in his opening remarks how he and his brothers were caregivers for their mother. He counseled the caregivers in the audience on the two "B"'s; Do your Best and Keep your life Balance. As a Caregiver, you can only do your best. Assisting your family member so much that you neglect your responsibilities does disservice to yourself, your family and your family member for which you arecaring. You can assist your family members well only if you keep your life in balance.

Dr. Anna Nguyen from the USC Fall Prevention Center of Excellence advised attendees on Intrinsic, Behavioral and Extrinsic factors causing falls.

Janet Morris, Director of Bet Tzedek Caregiver Project shared information on making Legal, Financial and Health Decisions.

This is a good documentary. Jacob Cunningham directed the 2009 film, Thy Will Be Done about the life of Kevin Natale who as a 14 year old in 1994 was shot in neck and paralyzed by a next door neighbor. The film is the story of Kevin’s journey and the impact on his family and the shooter’s family. See http://www.thywillbedonefilm.com.

Kevin, friends and others used the American Ramp Systems wheelchair ramp to enter the screening room at the Elks Lodge in Ventura where the Ventura Film Festival was held this last weekend.

Kevin has an amazing journey with faith, resilience and forgiveness.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for contributing to our blog. It is our hope that you and others will be able to use the information here to find funding for the wheelchair ramp at your church or perhaps use the blog as a resource to locate another blogger here who can lead you in the right direction.

Of course, we will do all we can to help you through the process. First off, as we install wheelchair ramps throughout the country I must ask where your church is located. The next step would be for us to get in touch with you to provide a free evaluation of the property to determine what is needed. Once you have this evaluation and estimate, you will be ready to approach funding sources with a specific project and pricing in mind.

Please respond here or call us directly, at 888-715-7598 (toll free) so that we can help you through the process.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Hi,

I am looking for funding to build a handicap ramp at my church. Can you tell me if there are any sources that might fund such a project with either full funding or possibly matching funding. We have been trying to gather funds for several years now and cannot reach our goal. Both my mother and father and countless others would have attended church weekly if it was physically possible for them to climb the steps to the church.

Thanks for any help that you may offer.

Sincerely,

Rick K

Touching people’s lives

One of the joys of working for American Ramp Systems is to know that every ramp we install is improving someone’s quality of life.

While the majority of the time our ramps are just getting people in and out of their homes for medical appointments, we also get them to their boat docks, to their children’s weddings, to a grandson’s birthday party, to watch their son play football, to join their classmates on the stage on graduation day, to get in and out of the election polling site, to a family picnic and so much more.

I have some personal experience with an American Ramp System. My mother recently had a stroke and I had a ramp put in front of my house last month. My Mom can go to church again on Sunday mornings and just go for a walk (or, should I say, ride) up and down the street for some fresh air.

From time to time, I’d like to tell you some of the stories of the lives we’re touching and improving at American Ramp Systems.

We faced a challenge this August in Western Michigan. How do we get an 85 year old lady and her 103 year old mother down 11 very steep steps to their patio boat to cruise the lake by their home?

We found a way. Now these wonderful ladies are able to enjoy the end of summer on the lake rather than just longingly gazing at it from their window.

A father in Cleveland, Ohio wanted to watch his son play football, but the high school field was not able to accommodate his wheelchair. This father was determined and convinced the high school to install an American Ramp. But the story doesn’t end there. The father is now able to enjoy his son’s home games, but soon found out that many of the school’s on the away schedule were also not equipped to accommodate wheelchair access. So far he’s worked to have 3 of the schools install ramps for spectators. No matter what the score, this team sure has a winner behind them!
